Apologies…

…for not posting more regularly.

I’ve been sick again, damn it, and very little work is getting done.

This may mean that COUNTDOWN TO MYSTERY #6 will be late, and that, for scheduling reasons, I won’t be able to write the introduction to Marvel’s Howard the Duck Omnibus edition.

I have seldom been so thoroughly pissed off.

And saying so just depleted the last of my energy.

Later.

imagine how great it’s going to feel coming out the other end of all this.

Just focus on feeling better and worry less about what is or isn’t getting done – your health comes first.

    Get Well Steve

Finished the newest C-to-Mystery yesterday, enjoyed it and looking forward to the next one; hope though the next one has the Fate story first 🙂 Get well soon.

    Feel better
I’m loving the Dr. Fate story, and it’s well worth waiting for. Maybe when you’re back on your feet, you can post what you would have written for the Howard Omnibus? I know I could write a whole article on that book’s influence on me.

Having so recently lost my father to pneumonia I’m quite worried about you, Steve, and you’re even younger than he was, He also worked until he died and was about to be downsized–if he’d died two weeks later, I’d have had no nest egg. Even though I only know you through e-mail and your work, I really want you to get better.

I’ve been keeping up on your blog for a while now and it bums me out that you’re going through all this. But just wanted you to know that we are definitely rooting for you! And I don’t mind at all waiting for Countdown To Mystery. It’s been probably my first read of my huge pile of books everytime it comes out. Amazing writing and great art! I don’t mind waiting a bit to read it though. Just looking forward to the next book. Hope you’re doing better!!!

Get someone to dictate to! If anybody deserves to write an introduction to a Howard omnibus it’s you!

And some of us will buy anything with your name on it, regardless of the wait.

    Get well soon.

Very difficult to know what to say in a mail to a man you’ve never met, but whose work has enthralled & entertained you since childhood, except: You genuinely mean a lot to a lot of people. Be well.

    Stay pissed off tho’.

Don’t compound regrets. You just brilliantly portrayed the pointlessness and self-fulfilling defeat of Kent’s breast-beating in CtM #4. Wise people are sometimes too conscientious to take their own advice. Anyone who can’t see how hard you’re trying ain’t worth worrying about. We’d rather wait for a comic than lose you, so conserving your strength comes first. The stuff you’re doing now will still be read and talked about decades from now, so it’s okay if it takes a little longer to arrive. Kent’s parallel relapse in Issue 4 almost makes it seem like there’s a cosmic harmony, not a cosmic thwart, to the trials you go through and the insights you come back with. But I’ll leave the mystical rationales for the comics — in cold real-world fact there’s none of these thwarts you haven’t outlived, so keep doin’ what yer doin’ (and what you have to to get well). The steps backward wouldn’t be half as frustrating if there weren’t steps forward (like getting on the transplant list) to accentuate them — which is a sucky but sure sign of progress. The bad news of existence is that optimism is irrational and of no objective relevance to the moment that we’re in; the good news is that pessimism has to be too. You seem to be in good hands and making good choices, and staying at ringside and waiting is out is the least you should expect from us. Who knows, maybe Marvel could even hold back the Howard book — you’d think they could let a comic come out late, just this once ;-).

It’s allways hard to write a comment to such a post that is not has either to much pitty or to much sarcasm but I try anyway.

You allready know that all of us who read this blog are with you in spirit and those of us who believe in some kind of higher power (besides the cosmic thwart) pray to that power for you.

What you also should know is the fact that we rather wait for a comic or a comment or something else from you then to have you overexert (sp?) yourself. Get well first and then continue to write the best damn comics out there, okay?

If there’s any way for you to dictate an intro to the HTD omnibus, it would be a gift to us all, including the greater world at large that doesn’t keep up with your blog. I hope, too, that Marvel (whoever owns it these days) is sensitive enough to mention FOOG 2 -please keep us posted about how we can contibute! It would be a joy to know that I could do anything to help you during this time, you whom I consider to be the finest writer of funnybooks. Truly, I cannot tell you how special the Headmen/Nebulon saga is, or the golden run you had on the duck; these are some of the best comics ever written my friend! They are a constant inspiration for those who are sensitive to the strange vagaries of existence. I pray that we can give a little back for your timeless stories.

    Piano!

Of note: I can only see your entries in archive form. When I go to the main page, the blog field is empty, though I can see the sidebar fine. Did you change settings? Please advise.
